This project is one of my most recent work. The fashion and textile industry is one of the leading causes of pollution behind oil and gas. Around the world it collectively produces 300,000 tonnes of textile waste annually. Of this, only 1% is being recycled.
In this brief I was challenged to construct a garment with little to no waste using upcycling, repurposing and zero waste pattern drafting. I explored work from designer Holly McQuillan which ultimately inspired my final creation, which is a modular piece created with patchwork from recycled clothing and leather offcuts from handbags. This garment can be worn multiple ways.
